Since August 2018 the newly established department "Physiology of Yield Stability - PhYS" (340k), is lead by Jun.-Prof. Dr Sandra M. Schmöckel. The department is part of the Institute of Crop Sciences (340). The research group investigates abiotic stress tolerance, such as water deficit and salt stress tolerance, in crop plants like barley and quinoa. They utilize the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the heterologous expression system yeast and a range of -omics technologies. In addition to laboratory and greenhouse research, field trials are also planned in order to include the practical aspects.
